Why change?

The “General Binding Rules” were introduced by the government in 2015 because poorly treated septic tank effluent is polluting rivers, streams, land and groundwater.

From January 2020 the law requires some homeowners that operate a septic tank to upgrade their systems to a “treatment plant” which cleans the wastewater properly before it enters the ground or watercourse.

To find out if you need to make a change, click here to use our Homeowner System Checker which is quick and free to use. This can also be found in our ‘What do I need?’ section.

Alternatively, send us an enquiry here or just call us to talk about your system and find out more.

You can view the General Binding Rules document and see broader information on the subject here, in our News section.
